Chad (Johnson) Ochocinco and the Motorola Company bought up unsold tickets for last Sunday’s Bengals game so as to prevent the game from being blackedout on local TV. Well done sir, well done.
Meanwhile I continued to prove the effectiveness of my reverse jinx (you’re welcome GT) and should have won both my upset picks were it not for Bradford getting hurt on their second possession and Wisconsin choking at home in the second half. Speaking of choking, what the hell Ohio State. Everyone had them as their 10 point pick and that kept the scores low. To sum up the week, three people missed only their 10 and 1 point picks and got everything else, the two ladies only missed their 10 and 4 point picks, and of course Bryan and I sucked while Jim forgot to pick.
Quick note, I’m not including the Thursday game (FSU @ unc) this week for two reasons: 1) I think the Thursday game throws people off and they forget to pick (ie Jim didn’t pick last week) so I only want to include it if it’s a really great looking game and 2) basketball season has started and unc can “go to hell Carolina go to hell!”
Weekly Scores: Mao 33pts (8-2), Jeff 33 (8-2), Jared 33 (8-2), Spears 27 (8-2), Shuler 27 (8-2), Derrick 27 (8-2), Trey 17 (6-4), Bryan -1 (5-5)
Totals:
Mao – 195
Jeff – 175
Jared – 173
Trey – 163
Spears – 155
Derrick – 145
Shuler – 133
Jim – 90
Bryan – 78
Our teams (VT has a bye)
Georgia Tech (12) @ Virginia – oddly, this is the second best game of the weekend
Minnesota @ Ohio St (19) – OSU screwed everybody out of 10pts last week
Indiana @ Northwestern – no comment
Maryland @ Duke – to reverse jinx or not, that is the question
Tennessee @ Alabama (2) – hello 10pt pick
Clem(p)son @ Miami (10) – oddly, this is the third best game of the weekend
College GameDay Game
TCU (8) @ BYU (16) – far and away, the best game of the weekend
Fillers
BC @ Notre Dame – Catholics battling against each other
Auburn @ LSU (9) – can LSU start a new home night game win streak?
South Florida @ Pittsburgh (20) – I debated for a while about what the final game should be and this is the best one even if it doesn’t look like it. USF is 5-1, Pitt is 6-1. And beside, the other game to include would’ve been USC at home against Oregon St or Arkansas at Ole Miss. So of three stinkers, this is the least smelly.
by the way, apparently i’m the only degenerate who gambles so i’m the only one making “weekly lock” picks.
and my lock last week was BC at -2.5 at home against nc state and BC ended up winning by like 40. so well done me.
Not sure if I have faith in these at all – probably not enough faith to go first.

OH! Picking the Buckeyes at 10pts despite the fact that they screwed everybody up last week. Getting right back on the horse I suppose.
No way they have as many turnovers as last week, plus they’re back at home. Though Minnesota are decent.
10 – Alabama
9 – LSU
8 – Ohio State
7 – GT
6- Notre Dame
5 – Northwestern
4 – Miami
3 – Pitt
2 – Duke
1 – TCU
10 – Alabama (at home, but the rivalry element concerns me)
9 – OSU (Gophers’ offense keeps it close for a while but their defense can’t stop OSU)
8 – ND (BC only wins at home)
7 – GT – (Tech wins convincingly)
6 – Miami (no faith in Dabo’s coaching)
5 – LSU (at home at night, but their offense is awful)
4 – TCU (I garuntee they win at BYU bc for all its problems Christianity is less egregiously ignorant than Mormonism)
3 – Duke (no reverse jinx, I’m a true believer. Plus we signed that Irving kid who is supposed to be the next Jason Williams)
2 – Northwestern (who cares)
1 – South Florida (Pitt hasn’t beaten anyone good and lost to NC St)
As for gambling, no real locks this week.
- I’ll take TCU -2.5 @ BYU
- I’ve won twice this year with Army covering spread so I might take Army +10.5 at home against a Rutgers team that is 4-2 but who’s best win is either Fla Atlantic or Maryland.
- The only other interesting one I see is Wake at Navy with Navy as a 2.5pt favorite. Navy’s good and all, but you figure Riley Skinner won’t have a second week in a row where he can’t find recievers and gets multiple picks. SoWake is interesting to me.
I guess overall TCU -2.5 is my lock for the week despite the fact that they are on the road. It’s a must win for them to have any chance at a BCS game, BYU got blown out by Fla St and TCU has a crazy good defense.
Looks like a large portion of our group lost points for being slackers and not getting their picks in before Thursday night.
Except that lats night’s game was not one of the ones being picked.
dude, law school is ruiningyour brain. do you honestly think i’d include FSU against chapel hill in our weekly picks if it could be avoided at all?
Also, unc wearing those ‘alternate’ jersey’s pissed me off to no end. They have light blue numbers but everything else is dark blue. What the hell? unc = light baby/girly blue and Duke = dark/royal blue.
Why are they trying to snake our colors? It’s not my fault your universiy picked colors that make you look like queers.

Yep, sorry about last week. it seems like every time I go out of town, I go somewhere where I don’t have internet access. What can you do. Here’s hoping Tech can break the UVA curse…

Trey, the last time I considered giving gambling advice Ohio State was a 16 point favorite over Wisconsin. As I posses a Buckeye fan’s requisite pessimism, I was certain that the Badgers would at least cover the spread. After three non offensive touchdowns (two defensive and one on special teams) the Buckeyes won by by 18 points (31-13). I feel my thinking was correct, but I would have ultimately lost the bet. So, I will abstain from giving betting advice. Though if you ever see Ohio State as double digit favorite over a decent team I would consider betting on the dog. If, however, Pryor turns the corner (which I think he will do now that he’s gotten advice from LeBron and Shaq) I withdraw my advice.
10 – LSU
9 – OSU
8 – GT
7 – Alabama
6 – Notre Dame
5 – Miami
4 – South Florida
3 – TCU
2 – Duke
1 – Northwestern
Do you all realize that Pitts only loss was to NCSU, while South Florida was to Cincinnati. Think about that for a bit.
Bryan, I agree with your point about USF entirely. However, it is worrying to take a Freshman QB on the road even if it against Pitt and their mustachioed coach.
Derrick, all good points. Tressel is old school so he usually won’t run up the score, which meas they don’t cover larg spreads. I wish the best for Pryor, but the Lebron and Shaq thing is just silly. What are they going to tell him?
GT @ UVA is on Raycom. Gotta love the awful announcing and poor production of Raycom.
Jeff’s picks via text message prior to kickoff.

4 – Pitt
3 – TCU
2 – NW

Oh, and I call shenanigans on UVA. They had a U2 (who suck) concert there and that required pulling up all the turf so they put down new turf like two days ago and it’s pouring rain.
Hhhhmmm, do you think that might slow down an option attack? What a bunch of cheaters.
WTF is going on with effing Northwestern???
PS – I call bullshit on your UVA theory. And the main reason is GayTech’s burning of the turf at Scott Stadium in 1990.
That remains one of the funniest stories in the history of the ACC. I mean I guy set their field on fire?!?!
No, but these teams that pull up the field and then put it down right before the game are insane. God always punishes them with rain on game day. Remember that Steelers game where they did that and the turf was literally coming up in chunks. That was the wort MNF game ever. Ever.
damn, NW is going to win by 1 after a FG with 21 second left. i had them at 2 so if they’d of lost the rest of you would’ve been hurt more than me and i could’ve picked up ground. i freaking hate NW
I love NW! I had them at 7, so thank god they came back.
And yeah, you’re totally right about that Steelers games. They had HS state title games, then Pitt, then the Steelers all in the same weekend. Not good.
By the way, the AT&T rollover minutes commercials are starting to really annoy the hell out of me. I’m pretty sure that nagging woman’s husband is using his rollover minutes to call his mistress.
Good for Duke today. Apparently the weather was terrible, but Lewis was still great. My parents and grandparents were over at good old Wallace Wade and got soaked in the process. But according to my mom, it was well worth it.
They tried their damnedest to lose (I listened on XM radio) including Lewis fumbling on the 1yrd line.
But, as your family will atest, Duke has figured out the passing offense with Lewis throwing to Varner and Vernon and Kelly. And, God knows how, the defense isn’t good but they get stops when they need too. LIke on 3rd and long they’ll give up a 40yrd play but inside the redzone they’l hold a team to a FG. It’s wierd.
And yeah, they said it was coming down in sheets and that most people left around the 2nd quarter so good for your fam for sticking around Historic Wallace Wade Stadium.
Unbelievable at Alabama! Can’t believe they blocked two kicks.
suck it
Yes, do suck it. Not because I’m a Clemson fan, but because they’re win puts GT in the driver’s seat to make it to the ACC Championship game. Booya.
Their win, that is.
Way to suck South Florida, and Northwestern does this too often. They’re like the predator that plays dead and let’s the prey nimble off them for a bit. Than snap crackle chomp yo ass, they eat you. I taught them that while researching the butanol.
If the Jackets do return to the ACC championship, I hope they score more points than they did the last time they made it there. The field goal fest of 2006 was painful.
all I can say is, besides my previous remark, is that a GT Clemson rematch might be in store for the ACC championship.
Excuse me, but Duke currently has only one loss in the ACC, so whose to say they won’t be in the ACC tourney?
And Clempson is funny. No defense and a Freshman QB = losing to shitty teams on the back of 4 turnovers and then beating teams better than you in a shoot out.
Sorry for my Thursday night comment oversight. You’re right – law school is totally ruining my brain. Seriously. I have no common sense anymore, which is why I keep choosing shitty teams.
And I really hate the Clempson thing. Can we strike that. It is really only funny for Trey.
